So…
This all started as I was fed-up of getting a sweaty back and sore shoulders from cycling because of my backpack. This lead to panniers, then saddlebags and handlebar bags. But I was never satisfied with the way these make the bike feel and handle. So I made something. It took a few years of fiddling & a few iterations (some of which you see here), then I came up with the double strap system. Which is the thing that sets HipPac apart. This allows for a larger pack to be kept slightly higher (so it doesn’t catch on your saddle) that won’t slip down. There is nothing else like it around.
It’s better than a backpack as it doesn’t sit on the shoulders so it doesn’t interfere with movement, keeps your centre of gravity lower which it better for stability and agility. So better for commuters to carry their stuff in a more comfortable way.
It’s better than a saddle bag as the weight is carried on the body so the weight and feel of the bike isn’t affected, no tail wag! So it’s better for trail riders, whether it’s for your sandwiches on a day ride or part of the luggage kit for a bike packing adventure.
It’s better than a messenger bag. Being fully symmetrical there’s no lop sided weight so it’s more ergonomic and comfortable. And being expandable to carry far more than you’d expect it’s perfect for curriers.
I felt like I’d made something people could really use and really improve the experience of cycling with stuff. also wanted to keep things local, to minimise transit distance, do what can be done to work towards a more sustainable, circular product. So I found a maker here in the UK (Materia Products) and worked with them to make a viable prototype and now here we are with our first production run! Using elements sourced as locally as possible and of the highest quality.
This is all about function so I wanted to use the best component I could find for each element. From the magnetic Fidlock fittings to the special Ripfast velcro to the Cordura fabric each part has been selected to maximise function & ease of use.
What I hope I have for you here is a new, more comfortable way to carry your stuff.
